Ted Bundy

Theodore Robert Bundy was a notorious American serial killer in the 70s who confessed to 30 homicides before his execution in 1989. The true number of victims is still unknown and could be higher than 30. Bundy became notorious for his crimes for several reasons, one being the severity of his crimes as well as the way he defended himself in court and denied guilt until his execution.

Ted Bundy was known to be charismatic, handsome and friendly which enabled him to gain the trust of his victims prior to their death. His personality traits are the large inspiration for my project as I wished to convey the disturbing ambiguity of some killers. Bundy was jailed for the first time in 1975 for aggravated kidnapping and attempted criminal assault. Elizabeth Kloepfer (Bundy's partner before his incarceration) called the police to admit suspicion that Bundy shared a large resemblance to the suspect drawing of an unsolved homicide. Her call was detrimental to the arrest of Bundy.

During a hearing, Bundy escaped from the court and survived as a fugitive for 6 days before being re-incarcerated. He later attempted a second escape through the ceiling of his cell, and in the two weeks of brief freedom, he committed further homicides in Florida State University's Chi Omega Sorority house. Bundy was finally sentenced for a third time to death and was brought to the chair on January 24th 1989.
