Jonathan Wateridge

'Another Place' by Jonathan Wateridge is a series of paintings created in 2010 based on the narrative and production of a fictional American film. These large 3m x 4m paintings depict the unseen catastrophic events. The production process of the paintings in themselves is reminiscent of film making due to the scale model sets, props and actors cast in each role. The meticulously fabricated world creates a sense of unease, as though the paintings all relate to the catastrophic event. The emotions portrayed and ambience of the scenes immerse the audience and leaves you questioning the narratives behind the fictional scenes, which is what I wish to portray within my own artworks. Wateridge's work and hyper-realism have therefore become a huge inspiration for my project with the intention of creating large scale cinematic scenes in a hyper-realistic style to portray my narrative.
