Dennis Lynn Rader, also known as BTK ("Bind, Torture, Kill") was an active serial killer between 1974 and 1991, amassing 10 victims within the Wichita, Kansas metro area. BTK sent taunting letters of his crimes to the police and newspapers during his active years describing his crimes. From a young age, Rader harboured sadistic sexual fantasies involving bondage and torture as well as performing cruel acts on animals. He practised cross-dressing and would masturbate with ropes and other bindings around his arms and necks, often dressing up as his victims and recreating his crimes.
Rader was married and had 2 children, evading capture till 2005 in which a letter sent to the police from BTK included a floppy disc (after being told by the police this was safe) which the police were able to extract the metadata from the disc, revealing his identity. The large reason I am studying this case, in a similar way to Ted Bundy is the normality of the killer and how he was able to sustain a family whilst committing such atrocities, therefore pertaining to my narrative of an ambiguous killer.
